D2020 New York Brooklyn Bridge Traffic

The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Spanning the East River, the bridge connects the New York boroughs of Brooklyn and Manhattan. With a total length of 6,016 feet (1833m), it was the longest suspension bridge in the world when it opened in 1883.

Designed by John Augustus Roebling and completed by his son Washington Roebling, the bridge today remains an architectural marvel and arguably the most influential bridge design in the world. The National Park Service designated the Brooklyn Bridge a National Historic Landmark in 1964.

Bright lights illuminate the structure at night, highlighting the neo-gothic support towers and massive steel suspension cables. The bridge presently contains a six lane highway for motor vehicle traffic, and a separate walkway for bicycles and pedestrians.
